About this album
With the UK soul-searching in Thatcher’s Britain and the eruption of punk signalling a wider interest in reggae through the championing of Joe Strummer, John Lydon and Don Letts, it was only a matter of time before British reggae acts were given their head. Steel Pulse hailed from Handsworth in Birmingham and their 1978 debut is nothing short of essential, with their anti-racist first single ‘Klu Klux Klan’, the hugely emotive ‘Prodigal Son’ and ‘Soldiers’ and a host of other socially-conscious songs delivering an astonishingly accomplished debut.
